    • Underscore: Jan 1, 1-4pm at Pearl Street Studio (2126 Pearl St)

    The Underscore: Please arrive on time with the intention to “stay in” with us for the entire practice (1-4pm).

    The Talk-Through: If you’ve never been to an Underscore, you will *need* to attend the Talk-Through to learn the score. I will also encourage those who haven’t heard the talk-through recently to attend, as there may be new information or perspectives. Please bring a notebook and pen to write down notes for the Talk-Through.

    The Underscore is a framework for practicing and researching dance improvisation that Nancy Stark Smith has been developing since the early 1990’s.  It is a score that guides dancers through a series of “changing states,” from solo deepening/releasing and sensitizing to gravity and support; through group circulation and interaction, Contact Improvisation engagements, opening out to full group improvisation with compositional awareness, and back to rest and reflection.

    Directions to 3300 Hickok Pl: From Whole Foods, head north on 30th. Take a right onto Iris Ave, then a right onto 34th (stop sign). Willow Green Townhomes will be on your right (Hickok Pl). Either park in one of the rare “Visitor” spaces in the parking lot or on 34th. The clubhouse is on the extreme west-end of the parking lot (and has a blue-green door).

    Cost of Underscore: $10.  Talk-Through is free!
